Typically when a zit pops up on your face, you first response is “How fast can I get rid of this thing?” This situation can accelerate to a nightmare if your visage is canvassed with pimples that seemingly reproduce faster than bunnies. There is a simple way to take the frustration out of an unwelcome colony of zits and permanently supplant them. It involves a bit detective work that will prove to be more potent than any acne treatment that you’ve tried in the past.
Step one: Location, location, location. Where are the zits located at on your face or body? The areas of our face are directly related to organs within your body. For example, the area just below the space between your eyes corresponds to the pancreas. A zit appearing in this area could result from over consuming sugar products, which taxes the pancreas. You could remedy this zit by reducing your simple sugar intake for 2-3 days.
Step two: Type. What type of zit are you dealing with? A papule, cyst, whitehead, blackhead, or pustule? The type of zits you have reveals what type of issues your body is battling and how serious this issue is. For instance, cysts are deep within the skin and its unforgivingly painful set of traits queues you that your body is in desperate need of a change. The formation of a cyst is tied to the health of your blood and immune system. To help uproot a cyst, you would boost your immune system and cleanse your blood. If you’ve been coping with acne for years, you cure will be a bit more involved. This upside of this is that you stand to discover more about yourself that your neophyte acne counterparts. Step five. Examine your past acne treatment strategies. How have you dealt with zits in the past? What worked? What did not work? Perhaps you’ve tried creams, prescription medicines and herbal supplements. Unfortunately, most people go for a treatment hoping for one thing only, removal of zits. But acne treatments target zits differently. For example, benzoyl peroxide works by “killing acne causing bacteria” and thereby helping to reduce the presence of acne. Actually, you need p acne bacteria your face and do not want to kill them per se. You want to avoid creating an environment that is conducive to acne. Controlling and understanding your acne trigger do this.
Salicylic acid works be helping to exfoliate the skin and reduce the build-up of dead skin cells that can cause inflammation of the hair follicle and zits. You can only exfoliate your skin so much. If your skin is covered with inflamed zits such as cysts, papules and whitehead, you want to reduce inflammation, not dry your skin out. Boosting the immune system reduces inflammation. This can be done by drinking sugar free juices containing citric acid, like lemon aid or supplementing your diet with a multivitamin containing 1000mg of vitamin C. Drinking calming, cleansing and antioxidant rich teas such as chamomile, green tea, or Echinacea teas also aid the immune system.

A hamburger without cheese, mayo or mustard is a must have. Moreover, fast food restaurants have an impressive supply of low cal entrees. So what are you waiting for?
1 8oz. Glass of water
1 cup of raw strawberries. If you don’t like to eat them in their natural state, sprinkle on a sugar substitute for added flavor; 2 pieces of broiled chicken, 1 cup of beets or string beans; I 8 oz glass of water.
Although I don’t encourage snacking, I know that everyone reaches a point where they just have to have something to sink their teeth into. For you I recommend:
a sweet, juicy fruit: excellent choice; a peach or orange; 1 cup of Vanilla yogurt sweetened with Aspartame. Believe me when I say it tastes better than regular yogurt, but without the extra calories; or try a saucer of delicious sugar-free ice cream. They come in a variety of flavors; ranging from cherry vanilla to chocolate swirl. There you have it, a diet that promises results if used correctly. Now put down that sandwich, you’re getting mustard all over the keyboard.
Certain foods are especially beneficial to the skin. Garlic is one such food. It contains sulphur compounds (which give it its rather strong odor) which are beneficial to your skin. It also acts as a natural antibiotic and cleanses the whole system. If you like garlic, eat it as much as you can. If the smell worries you, chew a piece of parsley afterwards and this will neutralize it. Odorless garlic tablets are available if this is all too hard.
Vitamin C is probably the most important skin vitamin in my opinion. Not least because the human body can neither make it or store it. This vitamin helps collagen formation which keeps the skin looking young and plump. This could be why smoker’s skin can look older than a non smoker’s. Smoking also uses up the oxygen in the blood. Give it up if humanly possible or at least cut it down.
Vitamin C is best consumed together with bioflavonoids, the way it is normally found in nature. The two have a synergistic effect. They can be found in Citrus fruit, berries such as strawberries and blueberries and vegetables such as broccoli.
Broccoli also contain vitamin A, an important vitamin for skin as it helps it fight infection from the inside out. Great for those with acne! Have some every other day if you can.
Carrots are a great source of carotenoids such as “beta-carotene” which your body converts to vitamin A . Beta-carotene is absorbed into the skin and can also protect it from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Carrots also contain “alpha carotene” which protects against free radical damage. Carrots are a great way to get your vitamin A as excess carotenoids are expelled by the body. Too much vitamin A is toxic to the body.
Dark leafy green vegetables, particularly kale and spinach are a good source of zinc and iron. Iron will make sure your skin gets enough oxygen and zinc is a great pimple fighter. Eat some every day if you possible can or include some in a fresh juice.
Parsley deserves a separate mention as it is rich in just about all the skin boosting nutrients. It contains beta carotene, chlorophyll, vitamin B12, folic acid (great for firm skin), vitamin C and iron. Parsley can be added to juices, casseroles, sprinkled over any savory dish or simply chewed by itself. Its great for fresh breath too. Parsley is easy to grow, pop some in a pot and keep it near the kitchen door.
Olive oil is fabulous for dry skin and wrinkles. Use it for cooking – it contains monounsaturated fats and anti oxidants- or slather it on your skin after a bath.
Flaxseeds and flax oil (also known as linseed) contain the essential omega 3 oils not found in many foods. (Fish also contains omega 3). Flaxseeds contain fiber and phytoestrogens which balance the body’s hormones and are vital for younger looking skin. Sprinkle some on your cereal or use in soups and stews.
Avocados give skin (especially dry skin) a boost. Although fairly high in fat, its the healthy monounsaturated kind which makes dry skin supple. Avocados contain glutathione which is one of the most powerful antioxidants around and will prevent cell damage in all skin types. They are also high in potassium.
Drink as much water as you can, this flushes out toxins and helps to hydrate the skin. If you can’t drink eight glasses a day – I can’t unless its 40 degrees – then just drink as much as you can without being uncomfortable.

Skin needs sufficient protein to replace and repair itself. Most of us have plenty of protein in our diets but a lot of it comes with a lot of fat attached. If you can substitute low fat items e.g. milk, peanut butter, cheese etc, then do so. You’ll still be eating the same amount. Lean meat is fine, fish is even better as it contains natural omega 3 oils which are great for your skin and your health.
Try and add as many fruits and vegetables as possible to your diet. If you ‘re a committed junk food “junkie” this may seem impossible, but if you tackle it in small bites (pun intended!) It will be easy. Commit yourself to healthy foods on certain days of the week or drink water instead of soda in the afternoons. When this becomes comfortable, expand it to every day. Its just breaking old habits and replacing them with new ones. After a while you’ll be comfortable with it. And you’ll feel better and loose weight too.
The purists tell us that all vitamins and minerals can be obtained from foods and there is no need for us to take supplements. In theory this is true, however the stress of life today probably robs our system of vitamin B. Smoking uses up about 35 mg of vitamin C per day.
Added to this, the practice of storing fresh produce for extended amounts of time, can’t help but deplete the natural vitamins in these foods. The pollution in our cities and some of our bad habits like eating junk and smoking (who me?) leads to the production of free radicals in the body. For this we need an antioxidant which contains among others beta carotene (a precursor of vitamin A), vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, lycopene (found in tomatoes) and zinc.
Healthy skin loves exercise! It doesn’t matter what kind. Walking, jogging, all types of sport, aerobics, thumping around in the gym, whatever you enjoy try and fit it in three times a week. If you don’t enjoy any exercise, find one! Join a group of people or find a walking buddy, you will get to enjoy it I promise!

I pulled through all of my beauty nightmares and learned some valuable beauty secrets as a result.
Now people are always commenting to me on my beauty. Saying I should be a model, etc…. And guys are no longer even an issue! I dont have to look for them, they come to me.
It turns out the best beauty secrets are those that are won by personal knowledge and experience. Not just by reading general tips in magazines.
So by experimentation over the years and by perseverance, I’ve found out what really works and what doesn’t.
Beauty Secret 1
Unchap and beautify your lips with this technique.
For soft, beautifully kissable lips, you need the following: a washcloth (Im not kidding either), warm water, and your favorite brand of lip balm.
First you apply a coat of lip balm. Then wet one corner of the washcloth, put the warm wet corner of the washcloth between your lips, press them together and hold for 5 seconds.
Then gently massage any remaining lip balm from lips with the wet corner of the washcloth, and dry lips with a corner thats dry.
Apply lip balm again to keep your lips chap free. You may also apply lipstick or lip gloss on over the layer of lip balm.
I learned this was the best way to keep lips from chapping, after going through too many winters with dried, and chapped lips.
Clear your acne, and get beautiful skin.
For clear glowing skin, a little home remedy does wonders for my complexion, as it should with yours too.
Steam your face for 20 minutes every night after washing it, then every other night after steaming your face, massage a half teaspoon castor oil over face.
Leave it on at night while you sleep and wash off immediately upon waking.
Steam face for twenty more minutes in the morning after washing. When you finish steaming your face splash your face with cool water and dry it.
If your skin starts to show any signs of a pimple forming. Take one night off from steaming and applying castor oil and apply Benzoyl Peroxide over face.
Take the next night off also from the steaming, castor oil, and benzoyl peroxide. Continue facial regimen with steaming and castor oil the following night.
Beauty Secret 3
Good taste in clothes.
When shopping for clothes try to stay away from really big prints, or weird mixes of colors (eg. green, pink and blue flowers combined on a white background, for instance).
Clothes like these just scream Im color blind! And if you in fact, actually are color blind, always shop with a friend who isnt and has good taste in clothes.
Buy basic colors. Solid reds, pinks, blues, whites, and blacks. Or things with small tasteful prints and designs.
Then mix and match each basic color with a corresponding one (blue goes well with white, pink, and sometimes with red, and different shades of the same color almost always go well together).

Psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, and any other skin problems are irritated very easily by most soaps. As a former psoriasis sufferer I would estimate I tried at least 30 different soaps hoping that would cure my psoriasis. I later discovered I was wrong and my psoriasis was only irritated from soap, but soap was not the cause of it.
If you have any form of a skin problem you may have feared taking a shower or bathing because of the dry, painful itch, and film left by using a commercially produced bar soap. Why is that? What causes the itch left by a bar soap and is there any way to cope?
Here are some tips to buying a better soap or cleanser that may not irritate your skin:
1. Glycerin is a good moisturizer. Glycerin is known to moisturize from the inside out, pulling in moisture from the outside environment. It’s typically found in better quality, more expensive soaps like a hand made soap or good cleanser.
Lower grade, commercially produced soaps usually remove the glycerin and use more cost effective chemicals which are much more destructive to the skin.
2. Avoid any soaps that are granular. Granular soaps are terribly too abrasive for the skin of acne, psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis sufferers. This abrasive soap may be okay to wash motor oil off your hands but not to scrub the acne-prone skin on your face.
I had acne as a teen and believed I could scrub long enough to remove dead skin cells to let my pores “breathe”. It took little time to discover this was only irritating my skin. If you have beautiful, blemish-free skin a granular soap may not be harmful. However, gentle is the key for anyone who has any form of blemish or sensitive condition like psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis.
3. Tea Tree Oil and Eucalyptus are terrific for cleansing. Tea tree oil is considered to have some of the best natural antiseptic / antifungal properties in the world. Eucalyptus oil has been shown to fight infection-causing bacteria, fungi, and viruses very effectively.
The reason I have found tea tree oil and eucalyptus to be so powerful in helping my psoriasis was because both were natural and complemented my skin. Far too many chemicals are added into many commercial soaps today that do their job of cleaning but strip away the skins natural moisturizers as well.
Although I no longer have psoriasis, I still use a specific blend of aloe, eucalyptus, and tea tree oil in a concentrated cleanser. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will tell you what it is and where to purchase it. (I don’t personally sell it but can tell you where to find it)
4. pH balance of you skin is critical. Normal skin is naturally acidic with a pH in the range of 4.2 to 5.6. Most traditional soaps considered “mild” have a pH of around 9.5 – 11 which is too alkaline and may cause excessive dryness and irritation. These soaps traditionally remove the natural acid protection and extract the fats from the skin as well.
If you have eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis your skin may be even more alkaline than normal in those affected areas. Using a low-grade commercially produced bar soap, which may be more alkaline, could lead to infection. If you prefer a bar soap try a hand made soap. It will be more expensive but it would be worth it if you saw results, wouldn’t it?
Most cleansers may be more gentle because they are made not to disturb your skin’s pH level. The skin is designed to protect itself by maintaining a more acidic pH level. Many commercially made soaps may rob the skin of it’s natural acidic state, leaving it unprotected.
5. Frequency of washing – don’t overdue it. If you have acne you may have a difficult time with this one. If your skins excessively oily in your facial area it’s could be because you are using a poor quality soap that’s highly alkaline. By washing too much you may be stripping away the skins natural oil, forcing it to produce more.
I wash my skin once a day. I often see others recommending washing the skin up to three times daily. Washing this much is incredibly excessive for those of us with sensitive skin.
6. Pure Aloe Vera – the absolute best moisturizer. If you’ve ever had a severe sunburn you would know not to take a very hot shower. Don’t consider your psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis to be any less severe than sunburn.
If you find yourself in a situation where you’re in terrible pain from skin lesions this may help. Before I found my psoriasis cure I used Fruit Of The Earth® Aloe Vera 100% Gel. This is the closest thing to a pure moisturizer that you will find. While I don’t need this anymore because my psoriasis is gone, it helped tremendously when my psoriasis was very painful.
7. Natural. Most commercial “soaps” today are really detergents loaded with chemicals that irritate the skin and upset it’s natural balances. I only use and recommend hand-made soaps or very mild cleansers. The best place to find these hand-made soaps and cleansers are alternative medicine retailers, health food stores and the internet.
The skin is no different than life in that you need balance to be at peace with yourself. You need effective solutions that will not cause extreme side effects. If you want to see an example of extreme un-balance examine chemo therapy. Many patient’s undergoing chemo loose their hair, many get brutally sick, etc., because the body is not meant to go thru this type of intense therapy.

A regular shaver used with soap and water, or shaving cream will help you get that smooth finish. Doctors advised men to shave lightly, and shave only when necessary for acne skin care maintenance.
Sun of the beach! If you love sun tanning or just want the sight of that sophisticated sunburnt look – forget it. This is an acne skin care no-no. The sun’s harmful ultra violet rays redden the skin, making the skin drier. It can make one’s blemishes visible, speed up aging and bring serious damage to the human skin. Also, excessive exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer. You don’t want to ruin that great acne skin care you’ve been starting on with.
Cosmic Cosmetics. Eye shadows, blush on, moisturizer, and other cosmetics we use should be free from oily substances to permit healthy acne skin care maintenance. Even hairstyling products in forms of gels or aerosols that come in close contact with the skin may destroy a healthy acne skin care practice. Choose hairstyling products, which are commercially labeled as non-comedogenic are products which do not provoke the formation and growth of blemishes and other related skin disorders.

There is no perfect cure, medication, treatment or acne skin care methods for acne problems. Thus, as the sole proprietor of our own skin, we must take full charge of what lies to be our first armor against diseases and bodily injuries.
Aromatherapy is a growing area of interest as North America continues its search for alternative and complimentary applications of natural medicines. The use of herbal supplements in our daily lives is one excellent example of this.
Aromatherapy, however, is still in the realm of uncertainty. People are familiar with the term, most have heard of essential oils, but still few know how to use them in practical applications.
Here’s a short list of some examples of ways to enhance your daily life with essential oils.
- Diffuse in air with a ceramic or electric diffuser to clean or fragrance the air.
- Facial steam – add a few drops of oils to boiling water, place your face over the bowl and drape your head with a towel and breathe deeply.
- Bath water – add 4-10 drops to your bath or jacuzzi.
- Skin spray – add 4-10 drops of oil to 60 mls (2 oz) distilled water in a misting bottle then spray skin for a fresh uplift to the day.
- Linen spray to freshen sheets & towels – same as the skin spray but mix 20-30 drops to 60 ml (2 oz) and spray your sheets.
- Remove the cap from the oil bottle and breathe deeply for a quick pick-me-up.
- Room spray – same as linen spray but the concentration is 50-75 drops to 60 ml (2 oz) of distilled water.
- Hand or foot bath – add 4-6 drops of oil to warm water and soak your hands or feet in it. For tired feet, also add 2 tablespoons of epsom salts to the water.
- Massage oil is easily made by adding 10-20 drops of oil to 30 ml (1 oz) of carrier oil, such as grapeseed, olive, sweet almond, jojoba, etc. Cut the amount of essential oil in half for children.
- After your shower, put a few drops of oil on a washcloth and rub vigorously over your body.
- Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a cloth by your pillow at night to help breathing when struck by a cold or flu.
- Hot compresses are wonderful on sore, tired muscles. Add 5-10 drops of oil to hot (not boiling) water. Soak a cloth in the water, wring it out and place on the affected area. Repeat as needed.
- Cold compresses – for headaches and swelling. Same as hot compresses but use cool to cold water.
- Sniff lavender or peppermint for headaches.
- Dab tea tree on acne pimples to help clear up the infections.
- Revive old potpourri mixes by adding 10-20 drops to the mix and stirring.
- Create your own perfumes by blending favourite oils in beeswax or oil bases and apply.
- Sniff peppermint oil for nausea, including morning sickness, motion sickness and carnival rides.
- For infant colic, apply a warm – not hot – compress with roman chamomile on the tummy.
- Massage menstrual cramps with clary sage diluted in a vegetable carrier oil like grapeseed or jojoba.
- Gently massage varicose veins with a massage oil containing cypress.
- Add a few drops of eucalyptus to your shampoo to help dandruff problems.
- Help smooth wrinkles by massaging nightly with a few drops of frankincense diluted in sweet almond oil or rosehip seed oil.
- For depression diffuse jasmine or rose in the air.
- After a long night on the town, add juniper to your bath to help detoxify your body.
Lavender and tea tree are the most commonly used oils that can be applied directly on the skin (neat) in small doses.
There are many excellent resources on essential oils and their effects on body, spirit and mind. Some oils have contra-indications so it is important that you learn about any oil before using it.

The most effective methods to combat acne include a combination of prevention and better skincare.
Here are some of the ways you can use to prevent and treat acne:
Regular exercise can help fight acne by fighting off negative stress levels that can come from negative self-esteem and depression. But avoid wearing tight lycra and nylon exercise outfits. These synthetic fabrics that tend to trap body moisture and heat, creating an ideal environment for bacteria to grow. Stick to loose clothing made of cotton or natural blends, and keep your sports gear and equipment clean.
To avoid pore-clogging and skin irritations that can contribute to acne, use products labeled “noncomedogenic” or “oil-free.” Opt for “hypo-allergenic” perfumes and cosmetics to avoid allergic reactions and skin irritation. Coal tar derivatives, carmine and heavy cream in blushes can cause reactions.
Shimmering facial colors can contain a flaky mineral called mica that can cause skin irritations and clog pores. Use a lip gloss with a matte finish for less pore-clogging. The more the shine, the more then comedogenic content and the more your pores can clog.
Studies show that diet does not play a role in either the cause or the treatment of acne. However, what is best for your body is best for your skin. So make sure you get enough vitamins, minerals and supplements that have been known and recommended to prevent and help conquer acne breakouts. These include

A good quality brand name multivitamin will probably have the recommended vitamins and minerals that you need to help with acne prevention. Drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day and making good, healthy dietary food choices.
3. Hormonal Treatment
Hormones (or a lack of them) during later years – especially for women – can play a role in acne flare-ups and prevention. One recent study showed that about 50 percent of women have acne, referred to as hormonal acne, problems during the week before their menstruation.
Treatment options include topical retinoids, oral antibiotics and Benzoyl Peroxide for teen years. For adults oral contraceptives or hormonal birth control pills and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) may be helpful for women, combined with systemic or topical treatments, prescription or over-the-counter products and medications.
4. Healthy Skin Regimen
Avoid harsh scrubbing or over-washing, because this can cause possible skin irritation or possible over production of oil to replace what’s washed off, clogging pores in the process. Use products with gentle exfoliation ingredients and skip products that contain alcohol.

Shaving is actually an excellent way of exfoliating or removing dead skin to help with the prevention and spreading of acne instead of leaving the remains to clog pores. And for some light acne cases already in process, shaving can help rid whiteheads and blackheads from the face. Do not shave areas taht are sore or infected. Use a shaving cream for sensitive skin.
Shave with a sharp blade. Use gentle swipes instead of heavy pressure and go with the flow or “grain.” A single-edged blade is better than a twin-blade razor. Electric razors may not shave as close to the skin, but they help with the prevention of acne and other skin breakouts and flare-ups better.
Stress includes external and internal stressors. External Stressors are those that compromise your skin’s ability to heal, like oily make-up and too much sun. Internal stressors like anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, depression and a variety of other internalized emotions, can trigger chemical reactions inside your body that can result in acne flare-ups and other skin irritations.
To combat internal stressors and prevent acne problems, get plenty of rest and sleep. Try to maintain regular hours. Keep a check list of “Things that Calm You” handy for stressful times, like reading a book, resting, listening to music, taking a walk, going out for an ice cream cone, etc.
Don’t you just hate those pimples popping up when they are least welcome. Like just before a big date. Or before a major presentation. It is even worse when the pimples spread all over your face. I know. I’ve been there. In fact, it was so bad that when I went to a doctor with a bad flu, the doctor treated me for acne instead.
Pimples begin when the pores in your skin get clogged up with oil, dirt and skin debris. Bacteria happily breeds in that concoction, infecting that pore, leading to acne.
To treat acne, attack the root of problem. The bacteria.
That brings us to these 8 tips.
1. Avoid touching your face with your hands.
Throughout the day, your hands come in contact with the world around you. Your hands touch surfaces like the phone, the computer keyboards, your bag, the table and basically everything around you. Picking up germs as you go along. Touching your face with your hands before washing them is a big No No. The last thing you want is to introduce more bacteria to your skin, leading to more pimples.
2. Keep your hair off your face.
Oily skin usually means oily hair. You have enough natural oil on your face. You do not need to add more oil and hair care products to your skin, which is what happens when your hair covers any part of your face. If you notice more pimples on your forehead, beneath your fringe, or along the sides of your face where your hair might brush against, your hair could be the culprit. You could keep your hair off your face by wearing it in a pony tail, or using hair clips to hold it off your face.
3. Wash your face 3 times a day with a good acne cleanser.
That’s what a doctor told me. Another doctor told me that the problem with many people that have pimples is that they use cleansers that are too rich for the face. That doctor recommended a soap and water regime. Another recommended an antibacterial cleanser that was meant for acne.
4. Stick to acne skin care
What works on your best friend may not necessarily work on you. Especially if her skin is dry and your is oily. The latest richest skincare products might make her look radiant but they could trigger a nasty acne outbreak in your skin. If you have a problem with acne, stick to Acne skin care products.
Stress tends to trigger acne outbreaks. Does your skin act up more before an exam or a stressful event? Learn to relax. Take a long bath with a few drops of lavender oil in the bath water. Watch a funny movie. Read a favourite magazine. Talk it out with a best pal. Do whatever works for you to ease the stress.
Your body needs sleep. Without enough sleep, even your skin acts up. Try to stop all work a few hours before bed time. When I had insomnia, I resorted to melatonin sleeping pills to help me sleep. That is actually the last resort. Better ways would be to exercise in the day so you can sleep better at night.
7. Stay away from pressed powder compact.
My friend’s friend used a pressed powder compact to hide her acne. Instead, the more she used it the worse it got. Just think. By mid day, your skin gets oily. You take out the powder compact, and use that powder puff to apply pressed powder on your face. Now, your face would already have dirt, bacteria and oil on it. Pat your face with that powder puff and now that puff picks up the dirt, bacteria and oil. You put it back into the compact. The bacteria happily breeds in there. Then you take out the compact again and pat more powder, mixed with oil, dirt and bacteria onto your face, picking up more gunk, putting in more gunk into your compact. The cycle goes on. A better bet would be to use blotting paper to blot off the excess oil instead. Then you can throw the paper away after use.
8. Do not let bacteria breed happily in your make up tools. Wash all your make up brushes regularly, with soap and water. Then dry them completely before you keep them.
Oily, acne prone skin needs a lot of care. The bright side is that oily skin is slower to show signs of aging than dry skin. Take care of your skin and you’ll probably look younger than your peers as the decades go by.
The number people over 30 needing acne treatments has climbed to the extent that a report published in Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology recommends raising the age for insurance coverage of the acne drug tretinoin to at least 40. The authors of the report, Drs. Steven Feldman and Alan Fleischer, dermatologists at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, add that many insurance companies refuse to pay for tretinoin prescriptions for patients older than 25.
Even if your insurance company leaves you to fend for yourself, you still have options for freeing yourself from acne and wrinkles. At first, coping with acne and wrinkles may seem like a cosmetic catch 22. Do you dry your skin with acne cleansers containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, and worsen your wrinkles? Or, do you smear on the moisturizer to smooth the wrinkles, but cope with the zits brought on by the extra oil?
Before you get frantic, ask yourself a series of questions. Adult acne may be the result of hormonal fluctuations triggers by diet, stress or your environment.
1. Are you regular?
About 70% of your immune system is located in your intestines. If this area is blocked with waste, your immuno-defenses are down. So, instead of waste leaving your body via the rectum, it chooses to leave through the skin. Waste leaving the skin can cause an infection that presents itself as acne.
2. Are you tense?
Tension likewise reduces the vigor of the immune system. Take a few deep breaths throughout the day to calm your body. Take a long walk in the fresh air to wind down.

6. Are you changing your pillowcase frequently?
Using a dirty pillowcase aggravates an acne condition. Your face naturally secretes oils during the night. These oils are sticky. So if you pillowcase if dirty, you are allowing your face to collect extra waste during the night, which could further clog your pores.
New demands or feelings of lose can sometimes accompany change. Transfer these emotions into something constructive by writing in a journal or envisioning how these changes are going to benefit you. Find comfort in these changes and opportunities for new beginnings.
8. (Women) Do you also experience excessive facial hair growth and erratic periods?
Conditions such as acne, excessive facial hair, and erratic periods could indicate an androgen disorder or other underlying hormonal imbalances. Your doctor can provide you with a series of endocrine tests to ascertain your hormone levels and what corrective actions you should take. Ricardo Azziz, M.D, who serves as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Director of the Center for Androgen-Related Disorders at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, estimates that 80 percent of women with excessive androgen levels suffer from an endocrine disorder called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Dr. Azziz adds that women with PCOS often have insulin resistance and are at increased risk for developing Type II diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
